The North American Car of the Year-winning Genesis is ramped up for 2011. The Genesis 4.6 returns this year with 10 extra horses added to the award-winning Tau® V8 engine for a total of 385 horsepower and more standard features from last year's Technology package. The 10 additional horsepower were added as a running change in 2010 model year and propel the Genesis 4.6 from zero to 60 miles per hour in 5.3 seconds (2010 5.7 seconds). The Tau still produces more horsepower and torque than the powerplants found in the Lexus GS460 and Audi A8. It also delivers more horsepower per liter than any of these V8 competitors. Genesis 4.6 continues to offer buyers the option to use premium or regular fuel. The Tau is rated at 378 horsepower on regular fuel and 385 horsepower on premium fuel and has been one of Ward's Auto's 10 best engines for two consecutive years.
For the 2011 model year, Genesis 4.6 has further enhanced its already astonishing list of standard equipment by adding more premium features as standard equipment. Genesis 4.6 now comes equipped with features that were previously optional, such as the Lexicon® 7.1 Discrete surround-sound audio system with 17 speakers, Ultimate Navigation System featuring the intuitive Driver Information System (DIS) with 8-inch screen, smart cruise control, electronic parking brake, cooled driver seat, adaptive front lighting system with HID headlights, and parking assistance system featuring front and rear sensors and rearview camera.
The Genesis 3.8 retains its same content and affordable base price.
NEW EQUIPMENT HIGHLIGHTS FOR 2011
*10 horsepower increase to Genesis 4.6's Tau V8 engine *Technology Package content now standard on Genesis 4.6
Smart Cruise Control automatically manages the Genesis' speed through the braking and throttle systems to maintain a following distance set by the driver. The electronic parking brake with automatic vehicle hold allows the parking brake to initiate automatically when the vehicle stops and deactivate as soon as the gas pedal is pressed. The automatic vehicle hold feature eliminates the need to keep the brake pedal depressed in situations such as stop-and-go traffic. Automatic vehicle hold also prevents the Genesis from rolling backwards when parked or stopped at a traffic light on a hill. The automatic parking brake also eliminates the need for a hand or foot lever.
The Genesis 3.8 models have an optional, next-generation in-dash navigation unit as part of the Technology Package. This system, which also features a Bluetooth hands-free phone system, can be easily controlled by a 6.5-inch touchscreen but also works through voice activation via a headliner-mounted microphone. Featuring an eight-inch display, the navigation unit is standard on the Genesis 4.6.
Like every 2011 Hyundai, Genesis comes standard with XM Satellite Radio®, and iPod/USB and auxiliary input jacks allow drivers to fully control and charge iPods directly from the head unit.
ADVANCED LIGHTING TECHNOLOGY
The 2011 Genesis offers Xenon high-intensity discharge (HID) headlights. The advantages of HID headlamps include greater lighting power, daylight-type lighting and reduced power consumption. In addition, the cut lines of the new HID headlights are extremely precise, providing maximum nighttime visibility without distracting other drivers. The lamps also feature an auto-leveling function which keeps the headlights level regardless of how the vehicle is loaded with passengers or cargo. Genesis also offers an Automatic Front Lighting System that allows the headlamps to automatically swivel for better visibility when cornering.
